Short Bio:
In high school, Vanderkaay was a two-time state champion in the 500-yard free (2001, 2002), and is the 2001 state champion in the 200-yard free. After high school he attended the University of Michigan, where he won six NCAA titles and 14 Big Ten Conference titles.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics, Vanderkaay was a member of the 4×200m freestyle relay team that beat the favored team from Australia. He won a gold medal in the 4×200m freestyle relay at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montreal, setting an American record in the process.

Vanderkaay won his first individual medal, a bronze, in the 200m free at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He was part of the 4×200m free relay that set the world record while winning the gold medal. 

 

Nathan Adrian

Short Bio:
Adrian won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a member of the Men’s 4x100meter freestyle relay team. As the leading sprinter for Team USA, Adrian anchored the men’s freestyle relay teams to two more medals at the 2011 FINA World Championships. The former University of California Golden Bear has totaled 12 international medals, including 10 gold, spanning the Olympics, World Championships and Pan Pacific Championships. At the 2010 Pan Pacific Games, Adrian dominated the competition by setting a championship record in the 50meter freestyle, upsetting the world’s fastest swimmer and reigning Olympic champion, Cesar Cielo. Known for his speed in the shortest events, Adrian set a meet record in the 100meter freestyle at the 2008 Short Course World Championships and was also member of the world record setting 4X100meter freestyle relay team at the 2008 Short Course World Championships.

Doing Good:
Adrian works closely with USA Swimming and their “Make a Splash” campaign, promoting the importance of diversity in the sport to local swim clubs across the country. Half Asian, Adrian is an advocate for equality in athletics and finds time to volunteer around his class, training and competition schedule.


 

Ricky Berens

Claim to Fame: Won a gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China in the men’s 4X200meter freestyle relay with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Pater Vanderkaay, setting a new world record in the process

Berens made his Olympic debut when he was just 20 years old at the 2008 Beijing Games, winning his first Olympic gold medal and setting a world record in the 4x200M freestyle relay.  As a 21-time All-American at the University of Texas, he earned two gold medals at the 2009 World Championships and added a gold medal at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships. After a gold medal relay performance at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, Berens is primed to win more medals at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Doing Good:
Berens works with The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a nonprofit public charity dedicated exclusively to finding permanent homes for the 115,000 children waiting in foster care to be adopted. Berens is also connected with Tyler’s Treehouse, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting researchers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital discover the cure for brainstem glioma.

 

Amanda Weir

Claim to Fame: Weir is an American Record holder and at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Weir and her American teammates earned silver medals in the Women’s 4x100 m freestyle relay and 4x100 m medley relay

Short Bio:
Amanda Weir set her first swimming record at age 12, and has set many more on her way to becoming one of the most elite American swimmers. After winning four consecutive Georgia 5A state titles with her high school swim team, Weir enrolled at the University of Georgia in 2004 and became a member of the 2005 NCAA championship team. Weir left UGA in 2006 to enroll at the University of Southern California before deciding to pursue a professional swimming career.

Weir competed in her first Olympic Games in 2004 at age 18 in Athens, Greece, where she earned a silver medal as a member of the 4x100 medley relay team. That same year, she also won a silver medal swimming the third leg for the 4x100 freestyle relay team, which set a new American record with a finish time of 3:36.39. Weir has earned nine World Championship medals, as well as two gold medals from the Pan American Games.

Doing Good:
Weir participated in Eric Shanteau’s “Swim For Your Life” to benefit the LIVESTRONG foundation in October 2011.

Short Bio:
As an open water swimmer, Chloe Sutton has won a total of five medals in major international competitions. She won the first international medal of her career at the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, winning the 10 km open water event. The following year, at the 2007 Pan American Games, she won gold in the same event. At the 2008 FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships, Sutton won the bronze medal in the women's 5 km open water event. One of Sutton’s proudest accomplishments is competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
