Apolo Anton Ohno is an American short track speed skating competitor and an eight-time medalist (two gold, two silver, four bronze) in the Winter Olympics. He is the most decorated American Winter Olympic athlete of all time. Ohno became interested in speed skating when he was twelve years old after seeing the sport in the 1994 Olympics. Since that time he has dedicated his life to training. At the 2010 Winter Olympics Ohno reached a career high by tying Bonnie Blair for most medals won by a U.S. Winter Olympian.

Ohno entered the world of endurance sports by making his debut at the ING New York City Marathon in 2011. He completed the marathon five minutes under his goal time of 3 hours and 30 minutes.
